A class four pupil has drowned in fast-flowing water at Anwomaso-High Tension in the Oforikrom Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
Some eyewitnesses claimed the 11-year-old girl, Agatha Oforiwaaa, was carried away by running water after slipping and falling on a large bridge while playing in the rain.
According to Agya Adusei, the deceased’s uncle, the girl was discovered today (Wednesday, July 5, 2023) after residents saw her body more than 200 metres away from the scene of the incident and rushed her to a health facility.
“Agatha and her friends were hovering around the vicinity when the torrential rains stopped on Tuesday evening, so she was playing with some of her friends,” he explained.
He said the minor and her friends were playing, but four of them came home and reported that Agatha had fallen into the river.
The residents tried their best to locate her, but all their efforts proved futile.
He added that traditional leaders in the area had to pour libations before the body was discovered.
