Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Yusif, is unhappy with the behaviour portrayed by national team players when asked to represent the country.
The National teams have recently found it difficult to make an impact in African competitions.
The Black Stars failed to qualify from the group stage of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2022 FIFA World Cup, while the Black Galaxies were eliminated in the early stages of the CHAN tournament in Algeria this year.
The U-23 Black Meteors failed to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
However, the sector Minister believes that the failure of our national team to make an impact in major tournaments is because players now shift their attention from what they are assigned to do and focus much more on bonuses.
Speaking at the 29th GFA ordinary congress, Hon. Mustapha Yusif said: “I find it very difficult to comprehend or understand that the state will gather the resources available, making sure to give opportunities to our national teams, get them flights for camping opportunities, give them tryout matches, but when these players get to the tournament, they focus on bonuses instead of the tournament itself”.
“It’s time for our youth and our national team players to value the flag they represent the flag of our country, the flag of our nation.
