The FIFA World Cup 2026 African Preliminaries Qualifiers draw took place yesterday in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.
Ghana Black Stars were drawn in Group 1 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers alongside Mali, Madagascar, Central African Republic, Comoros, and Chad.
The Black Stars’ recent performance has sparked debate within the Ghanaian football community about whether Ghana can qualify from the group.
However, despite being used to qualifying, former Black Stars captain and Africa’s World Cup top scorer Asamoah Gyan believes it will be difficult for Ghana.
“Since 2006, when we qualified for the first time, we have been very consistent, except in 2018. We are getting used to qualifying. 2026 won’t be easy; expectations are high back home, but we will try our best to qualify.”
Ghana has made four appearances at the FIFA World Cup, first in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022, respectively.
