Over 500 directors and heads of services in the Nigerian Public Service are due to retire.
The directive to go on leave comes after the release of the amended Public Service Rules.
Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan, Head of the Civil Service, issued the directive.
He issued the circular to ensure compliance across all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
The Revised Public Service Rules include a tenure structure for Permanent Secretaries, who will serve for a four-year term with the option of renewing for another four years based solely on good performance.
A Director(GL 17) or its equivalent as stipulated by other MDAs shall also be required to retire after eight years in that position, according to the new rule.
According to the new rule, more Deputy Directors on GL16 will be promoted to the next level.
The circular, dated July 27, 2023, directed Permanent Secretaries, the Federation’s Accountant-General, the Federation’s Auditor-General, and the Heads of Extra-Ministerial Departments to guarantee compliance.
