The 17-year-old who allegedly stabbed 15-year-old Elianne Andam in Croydon, south London, has been charged with murder.
The suspect [name withheld] appeared at youth court, sitting at Croydon magistrates court, today, Friday, September 29, 2023.
He has also been charged with possession of a knife. He was remanded in custody after his first appearance.
A 15-year-old girl was fatally stabbed outside a bus while en route to an independent girls’ school.
Details emerging indicate that the Police responded within two minutes after the incident, following which the suspect was arrested.
The minor, Elianne Andam, was stabbed near the Whitgift shopping centre in Croydon, south London after the attacker produced a knife from his pocket in a dispute over a bag.
Rainbowradioonline.com gathered that a bus driver and a passer-by tried to save the life of the girl, who was stabbed at around 8:30 a.m., while others chased the attacker.
Chief Superintendent Andy Brittain, addressing a press briefing, said, “This is every parent’s worst nightmare.
“I know the officers who responded this morning, along with our emergency service colleagues, are devastated at the victim’s death. This is an emotion I share, and I know people across Croydon will be feeling the same.”
Meanwhile, the bereaved family has issued a statement over the matter saying: “Our hearts are broken by the senseless death of our daughter. Elianne was the light of our lives. She was bright and funny, with many friends who all adored her.
“She was only 15 and had her whole life ahead of her, with hopes and dreams for the future. All those dreams have now been shattered. Our lives have fallen apart, along with that of our wider family. We ask the media to please respect our privacy as we try to grieve the short life of our beautiful child.”
