Former Black Stars forward Raphael Dwamena has died after collapsing on a football pitch on Saturday.
Reinbowradioonline.com gathered that the palyer died after suffering a cardiac arrest during a game between his Albanian side Egnatia Rrogozhine and Partizani.
The 28-year-old footballer died in the 23rd minute of the Superliga Match Day 13 game.
The footballer was diagnosed with a heart problem in 2017 and had an implanted cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) to monitor his heart rate in 2020 while playing for Spanish club Levante.
He had a recurrence in October 2021, when he fainted on the field during an Austrian League game between Blau-Weiss and Harterg.
He lived after being swiftly stabilised and recovered in the hospital; the game was abandoned.
He was later released by the club.
His heart problem was the main reason his move to Danish Superliga side Velje Boldklub fell through after an agreement was reached, with the club’s sporting director expressing concern over Dwamena’s cardiac measurement.
