She was found guilty of the crime and was handed the sentence.

The court relied on the old regime of the law which had five years as the minimum sentence for the offence she was charged with.

After hearing both the prosecution and defence cases, the Judge ruled the accused guilty.

Aisha Huang was charged with unlawful mining activities in the Ashanti region.

She was initially detained and deported from the nation in 2018 after the A-G opted to drop her trial for operating in small-scale mining without a licence.

She allegedly sneaked into the nation to engage in the same actions for which she was deported.

The A-G then decided to prosecute her for the alleged crimes committed prior to her deportation as well as additional ones committed upon her return to the country in October 2022.

According to the prosecution, Aisha operated a mining support services company and held an illegal mining concession at Bepotenten in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region.

She had pled not guilty to illegally conducting a mining activity without a licence, supporting the participation of those engaged in a mining operation, illegally employing foreigners, and entering Ghana while barred from re-entry.

On May 3, this year, Aisha pled guilty to violating section 20(4) of the Immigration Act, 2000, Act 573 by entering Ghana when forbidden from re-entry.

That was after she had entered into a plea bargaining arrangement with the State (Attorney General’s Office).
