Kwaku Agyeman Manu, the Minister for Health, has announced that Ghana will soon be the hub for the production of viral vaccines for the treatment of malaria.
He said aside from the World Health Organisation (WHO), which is into the mass production of malaria vaccines, Ghana will be the next destination to produce the viral vaccines.
The Minister of Health disclosed this at a graduation ceremony for over 5000 health grandaunts at Kintampo College of Health, while stating that this will curb the importation of vaccines.
“The good news is that WHO has chosen Ghana out of the many African countries that were piloted for the production of viral vaccines. So come next year, we expand the malaria vaccine production, and Ghana will benefit hugely from this, and within three years, Ghana will be producing vaccines from end to end,” Kwaku Agyeman Manu said, as aired on Rainbow Radio Accra.
The Director at Kintampo Health College, Dr. Kwabena Opoku Aduse, reiterated the mandate of the college, which trains middle-level health professionals who respond to the needs of rural folks.
“We started in 1969 with only 19 students at Saltpond but moved to Kintampo, and I’m happy to say that from a modest beginning, we have risen to become the best health training institution in the country.”
