Mr. Boakye Yiadom, a political expert, believes that the choice by certain sitting MPs not to return to parliament might be beneficial or detrimental to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Some of them who have decided not to return to Parliament, he believes, are political heavyweights and experienced.
Given their degree of experience and contributions to the party, he believes their departure from the House could have an impact on the NPP.
Several seasoned legislators, politicians, and incumbent legislators will not be returning to the legislative House.
These MPs include Dan Kweku Botwe (Okere), Joe Osei Owusu (Bekwai), Atta Akyea (Abuakwa South), Joe Ghartey (Essikado Ketan), Kennedy Agyapong (Assin Central), Kyei Mensah Bonsu (Suame), Kwasi Amoako-Atta (Atiwa West), Dr. Kwaku Afriyie (Sefwi Wiaso), Emmanuel Marfo (Oforikrom), Benito Owusu-Bio (Atwima Nwabiagya), and Carlos Ahenkora (Tema West).
The rest are Nana Kwasi Adjei Boateng (New Juabeng North), William Owuraku Aidoo (Afigya Kwabre South), Johnson Adu (Ahafo Ano South West), Francis Manu-Adabor (Ahafo Ano South-East), Suleman Sanid (Ahafo Ano North), Kojo Kum (Ahanta West), and Francisca Oteng (Kwabre East).
When asked if this could have an impact on the NPP’s political prospects, he responded, “I would answer yes and no.”Yes stands for the fact that the people who have stated their intention not to return to the House are competent politicians with whom we have lived and worked.
Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Joe Wise, Atta Akyea, and others are seasoned politicians who have exhibited quality of life and leadership, and as they prepare to leave parliament, they will not be actively participating in the campaign or party. They may also not contribute financially to the campaign because they may not receive government posts from ministers to deputies because they are not in parliament. This may have an impact on the celebration.
Aside from that, nothing is likely to happen as a result of the MPs’ decision.
I also answered no because we know, as MPs, that you will undoubtedly leave the House. Even as civil workers, we retire from active duty so that other individuals might take our place. So, while you’re there, it’s your responsibility to train people to take over when you’re gone. It is also the obligation of the newcomers to learn from the veterans. As a result, if you train the new ones correctly, they will take over from you and even outperform you.
You can look into Afenyo Markins and Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu. He has learned from the majority leader and proved that he can work since he has gained expertise. So I think these persons’ decision not to return to parliament would not have a significant impact on the NPP, but it may have an impact on finances and active campaigning, he said in an interview on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM’s Nayankonton Mu Nsem.”
He urged the party with investing in the younger generation and those willing to step in for these MPs so that the party can perform well in the House.
