The Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has stressed that the next NDC government under President John Dramani Mahama will pay allowances to Assembly Members to enhance their work.
According to him, politics is about local government, whose works are often not highlighted or given premium attention, and if the government wants to cut costs at the top, it is only prudent to invest in the Assembly Members.
Asiedu Nketia said former president John Dramani Mahama has promised to cut down the number of ministers in his second term, hence the need to incentivize the Assembly Members who are in charge of the local communities.
The NDC Chairman reaffirmed John Mahama’s promise while congratulating the newly elected Assembly Members on their victories in the December 2024 polls.“We have already sent a healthy congratulations to all the elected Assembly and Unit Committee members. We have learned through our flag bearer, John Mahama, that the next NDC government will pay Assembly Members to enhance their work.”
“This is because we believe that politics is local. Cutting down on the number of ministers and expenses incurred by the state on ministers, many of whom are hired for doing nothing and re-channelling it to the base, will help build healthy communities for development,” Asiedu Nketia said on Rainbow Radio Accra.
