Black Stars striker Jordan Ayew has attributed Ghana’s opening game defeat in the ongoing 2023 African Cup of Nations in Cape Verde to the inexperience of the team.
The Black Stars on Sunday, January 14, 2023, suffered a 2-1 defeat to Cape Verde to move to the 4th position on the Group B table.
Jamiro Monteiro and Garry Rodrigues scored the two goals in both halves for Cape Verde, while player of the match Alexander Djiku’s 56th minute goal was not enough to get a point for the Black Stars.
Reacting to the defeat, Jordan Ayew said the inexperienced nature of the team cost them a vital point against Cape Verde.
“I’m always calm about these types of situations, but we lack experience in the team. If you are the squad we have, more than 10 players are playing their first AFCON, and so these types of mistakes will happen.”
“But we need to learn quickly because the AFCON is not waiting for anyone. It’s hard, but we are men, and we need to stand up and face reality,” Jordan Ayew said after the game.
