The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has begun the search for a new coach for the Black Stars.
To do this, the GFA formed a five-member search committee to analyse and recommend candidates to the Executive Council for approval.
The hunt for a new coach has become necessary following Chris Hughton’s resignation on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, due to Ghana’s dismal performance at AFCON 2023.
The search committee will be led by Mark Addo, Vice President of the Ghana Football Association.
Ace Ankomah (Esq.), a legal practitioner and former lecturer at the Ghana School of Law, will serve as Vice Chairman of the search committee, which will include the GFA’s Director of Coaching Education, Professor Joseph Kwame Mintah, Ghana football legend Opoku Nti, and William Caesar Kartey, Chief Director of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The committee has three weeks to recommend the next Black Stars coach to the Executive Council for approval, the GFA announced.
A detailed Job Description for the head coach position of the Black Stars will be published soon, the GFA added.
“However, an abbreviated version of the criteria for the selection of the next head coach are as follows:
- The potential Head Coach should be a proven winner in coaching Top Men’s National Team or Club Football
- Must have a football philosophy that aligns or compliments our DNA
- Must hold the highest football license in the world with over 15 years coaching experience
- Proven track record in team reconstruction, organization and development of young talent
- Proven disciplinarian, tactician and leadership skills.”
