The Abossey Spare Parts Dealers Association in Greater Accra has denied claims of a 120% increase in spare parts prices by some commercial drivers.
The Association argues that despite an increase in spare parts costs, some driver unions’ claim of a 120% increase is not accurate.
Takyi Addo, Head of Communications for the Abossey Spare Parts Dealers Association, stated on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm that, while they acknowledge that there have been marginal adjustments in the prices of certain spare parts, the assertion that there has been a blanket increase of 120% across the board is completely incorrect.
The Association wants to emphasize that any such claims are misleading and lack factual basis,” he said.
He urged the media to uphold responsible reporting and information use, particularly regarding economic matters affecting various societal sectors.
He also admonished the driver unions to reconsider their stated reasons for a fare increment and not rely on inaccurate figures to justify their position.
He said there was the need for an open and honest dialogue, based on factual information since that will lead to a more constructive and understanding resolution.
“It is true that the cost of spare parts has shot up but the claim by the driver unions is not true. The cost of spare parts will depend on the shop and the type of car you use.”
When asked if they have a set price for spare components, he responded no, noting that the prices vary. However, let me reiterate that the prices of spare parts are always rising.
