Board Member of the Division One League Board, Sheikh Tophic Sienu, has labelled Ghanaian journalists as hypocrites for criticising the government and the Ghana Football Association for overly budgeting for the 2023 African Cup of Nations.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, published a document on his social media handles on Monday, January 29, 2023, stating that a whopping sum of $8.5 million was budgeted for the AFCON, where the Black Stars exited from the group stages.
Reacting to this news, Sheikh Tophic Sienu said journalists are part of the reason for the bloated budget because over 100 of them were sponsored to Ivory Coast for the tournament and cannot turn around to criticise the very thing they benefited from.
“In all these AFCON budget commentaries, Ghana took about one hundred journalists or more to the AFCON; their transportation, accommodation, and per diems form part of the budget.”
“These same people are shouting at the top of their voices as if the money were shared by FA and MoYS officials! That is why, as soon as Ghana was kicked out, 98% of them left. All be part of our money, Charlie. Ewiase paaaa de3! Ei,” Sheikh Tophic Sienu wrote on his social media pages.
