The Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications has given Electronic Money Issuers (EMIs) until the end of business on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, to coordinate with agents to link their accounts to either the Ghana Card or Tax Identification Number (TIN).
The Chamber says if by the deadline they have linked the accounts, they would have their SIM cards blocked.
This was contained in a directive issued by the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications on January 30, 2024.
According to the Chamber, the directive was issued following an extensive discussions with the leadership of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
The directive said “All agent accounts without Ghana Cards will be blocked on the 1st of February 2024.”
The Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications confirmed that all relevant information regarding the exercise has been communicated to affected agents prior to the deadline.
The statement warned that failure to do so by the end of Wednesday, January 31, 2024, would result in the blocking of their accounts.
The chamber issued a final call to action to agents, urging them to link their accounts with their Ghana Cards or TIN for regular operations.
For agents who find their accounts suspended on February 1, 2024, the Chamber outlined a recourse. They can visit any of the operator outlets with their Ghana Card or TIN to complete the necessary linking process.
