Dr. Evans Sampson, Vice Chancellor of Dunkwa Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Dunka-on-Offin, Upper Denkyira East, Central Region, has advised Ghanaian nurses not to leave the country in search of greener pastures in other countries.
He encouraged them to remain in the country and serve the people instead of travelling abroad to seek opportunities.
He was speaking at the 3rd Graduation Ceremony and Homecoming.
In attendance were the Member of Parliament for Upper Denkyira East and Deputy Minister Designate for Employment and Labour Relations Hon Foetus Awuah Kwofie, Minister of Transport Hon Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, Dr Daniel Acolor Board Member Hon Nichodemus Aboagye, Hon Richard Duodou Board Chairman Nana Natobankyi iii (Denkyira Ankobeahene), and other dignitaries.
The Vice Chancellor urged graduating nurses to serve their country, as state resources and taxpayers’ money were used to subsidize their education, highlighting their duty to build a better Ghana.
He told them that there was a need for the nurses to feel proud to serve the country.
“I will encourage you to feel proud of serving your country. Previous governments worked hard to make the school a reality, and you have the privilege of attending. I encourage you to serve your country. When you do this, you will be in a position of victory and wealth. You will be discouraged by others, but ignore them. “Remain patriotic and loyal to your country,” he advised.
The Member of Parliament for Upper Denkyira East, who doubles as Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Hon. Featu Awuah Kwofie, advised nurses who want to travel to seek greener pastures or continue their education to use proper channels to avoid being stranded in other countries.
He said they should make sure they have all the necessary documentation and licences to work in other parts of the country before travelling outside.
He, however, advised them to also feel proud to work in Ghana and serve its people.
He pledged his continuous support for the nursing college as the MP for the area.
