Cyril Ansah, the Clerk to Parliament, has contacted the Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante, to inform him about the submission date for the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2024.
It will be recalled that Office of the President has officially requested Parliament to refrain from transmitting the Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values (the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill) to President Akufo-Addo for his assent.
In a letter addressed to Parliament on Monday, March 18, and signed by the Secretary to the President, Nana Asante Bediatuo, the presidency referenced two pending applications for an order of interlocutory injunction currently before the Supreme Court.
The letter stressed that it would be improper for Parliament to proceed with transmitting the Bill to President Akufo-Addo for any action until the matters before the court are addressed.
Cyril Ansah in a letter dated April 10, 2024, said he is awaiting further notification on next steps.
“I have taken note of the contents of the letter, particularly the text in the last paragraph, which states that “In the circumstances, you are kindly requested to cease and desist from transmitting the Bill to the President until matters before the Supreme Court are resolved”.
Accordingly, I await an indication in writing from your Office on when to present the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2024 to His Excellency the President for his consideration, pursuant to article 106(7) of the Constitution, 1992,” portions of the letter read.
