According to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat’s operations have been under investigation since 2023.
In a statement dated April 10, 2024, the OSP confirmed that the Secretariat is currently under active investigation for suspected corruption and related offenses.
This was in response to calls made by some individuals and groups, including the Minority in Parliament.
The call on the OSP to investigate the Secretariat follows a recent publication by the Fourth Estate over an alleged scandal at the Secretariat.
The investigation has uncovered instances where scholarships were awarded to applicants from affluent families, contrary to the Secretariat’s mandate to support needy but brilliant people.
The OSP in a statement said: “The office of the Special Prosecutor commenced into suspected corruption and corruption-related offences of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat circa July 2023. The investigation is active and ongoing” the office stated.
