The former Ghana Football Association’s spokesperson, Saani Daara, has taken a swipe at Chris Hughton describing him as the most incompetent coach to have coached the senior national team.
In an interview with Rainbow Radio’s Sports Editor, Frank Osei Owusu, ‘Winter’, Mr. Daara stated that Chris’s hiring was horrible.
He expressed unhappiness with the team’s current status, but hoped that things would improve under Otoo Addo’s leadership.
Mr. Daara pondered why a strong team like Ghana, which had previously competed with top countries, had become so weak that it could not perform satisfactorily.
In his view, Chris Houghton was a terrible coach who mismanaged the senior national team with his level of incompetence.
“Otoo Addo left the team at a certain level of performance. But when Chris took over, he messed up the team, and our performance became so poor. We used to be one of the 20 best national teams, but Chris did a terrible job. The decision to hire Chris as head coach was one of the worst decisions by the GFA. We have to tell the truth. Bringing in Chris Hougton as the head coach was bad. We have to tell the truth.
Otoo Addo had a format, and it reflected in our games. But when Chris took over, our performance dropped. He had no format. He had no competence or the skills needed to build the team. Unfortunately, he destroyed the team, but that is history now.”
He advised coach Otoo Addo to select the best team to represent Ghana as we prepare to play in our next qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
He expressed confidence in Otoo Addo to do his best and transform the team to a level where they will perform better.
“That is why I am appealing to Otoo Addo to do his best and raise the team to the level we will all appreciate,” he said.
The communications specialist noted that it was important for the coach to have a team that is prepared to make the country proud.
He also asked Ghanaians to support Otoo Addo and the national team so that they could make the country proud.
