Kingsley Adumattah Agyapong, the United Kingdom Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), claims that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is selling falsehoods against the government, as they did under former President John Agyekum Kufour.
The lawmaker bemoaned that Ghana had the potential under the NPP to grow beyond what we have seen today if Ghanaians had kept it in power after Kufour’s tenure.
He asserted that the NDC fabricated lies and accused the then government of being corrupt, which made Ghanaians vote out the NPP despite all the positive achievements by Mr. Kufour.
He admitted that Ghana was facing an economic crisis, which the government was addressing, adding that even the UK, a developed country, went into a recession.
“We are talking about a country that has a great system and a robust economy, yet it went into recession. That is what we are talking about. This is the situation in the United Kingdom.”
He said, “If we were very consistent and had allowed another government of the NPP to stay in power after Kufour, Ghana would have moved forward beyond this. If not for the NDC’s fabricated lies, propaganda, and falsehoods, which saw the NPP kicked out after Kufour, we would have transformed beyond what we are seeing today. Despite all the allegations, when they took over and dragged our people to court, they could not jail anyone. That is what they are doing again.”
He praised the NPP’s achievements despite our economic constraints, emphasising that this government has performed significantly better.
“The NPP has maintained a robust economy despite all the challenges we have witnessed. The NPP has invested in massive projects, including roads, among others. But the NDC is doing the same thing today: peddling falsehoods about the NPP government mismanaging the economy and engaging in corruption.
These claims are false, and so we are asking Ghanaians to ignore the propaganda of the NDC and ensure that we maintain the NPP so it will continue with its impressive governance that will help the country transform,” he added.
