Mr. William Katey, the Chief Director of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, arrived in Paris, France, yesterday, June 17, 2024, ahead of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games Pre-Delegation Registration Meeting (Pre-DRM) scheduled for Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at the Paris 2024 Games Village.
The Chief Director is in Paris with Ghana’s Chef de Mission for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, Mr. Henry Kwaku Nyanteh Larbi, to attend and participate in the pre-delegation registration meeting slated for Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at the Paris 2024 Games Village.
The team will also hold meetings with the Paris 2024 National Committees Services and Relations Team as well as familiarise themselves with some strategic and critical game management systems and services.
Upon arrival in Paris yesterday, the Chief Director visited the Paralympic Team, made up of Para Athletics and Wheelchair Tennis athletes, in training camp in Paris, Gennevilliers, with the support of the France Embassy in Ghana and the Mayor of Gennevilliers.
The Chief Director congratulated the Para Athletics Team for their sterling performance in the just-ended Handisport Open Paris 2024 Grand Prix held from June 13 to 14 in Paris.
He was full of praise for Zinabu Issah, who had qualified to represent Ghana in the upcoming Paralympic Games in France, and assured the athletes of the Ministry’s continuous support and urged them to put in their best to make the most of the facilities at the training venue in Gennevilliers.
He also encouraged the team to take advantage of similar facilities at Borteyman Sports Stadium, built by the government for the hosting of the 13th African Games as well as for sports development and promotion.
Meanwhile, the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games are scheduled for August 28–September 8, 2024, thus some weeks after the Olympic Games. Ghana is expected to present athletes in para-athletics, powerlifting, taekwondo, wheelchair tennis, and cycling, among other para-sporting disciplines.
