The government’s spokesperson for governance and security, has disclosed that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, has chosen his running partner.
Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, has therefore shot down claims that the party was going through a crisis and that the Vice President was confused about who to select.
He told Kwabena Agyapong, host of Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, that the running mate is a man with exceptional political experience and competence to compliment Dr. Bawunia.
Palgrave Boakye-Danquah disclosed that the running mate would be announced soon.
The Vice President, he stated, is preparing to hold a town hall meeting in the United Kingdom and will announce his running mate after that event.
He stated that the running mate of the NPP is more inspiring than the uninspiring running mate of former President John Dramani Mahama.
“The choice of running mate is not a problem. We have settled on who the running mate will be. We are left with the announcement of the running mate. We have settled on who the candidate will be. The person is definitely from the Ashanti Region. He is from the stronghold of the NPP. But I can tell you the truth. I am confident in the running mate. I can tell you the truth: the running mate that Dr. Bawumia and the NPP have settled on is more inspiring than the uninspiring running mate of former President John Dramani Mahama. Don’t panic; the running mate has even been surveyed, and the person stood out from the others.”
Although he did not confirm, he made remarks that suggested that former Education Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh was the running mate.
He credited him as the man who executed President Akufo-Addo’s flagship education policy, the Free Senior School initiative.
“Look at all the candidates that have been presented; I am young, and I have observed all of them. Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh is such an excellent gentleman. He is a medical doctor by profession. He is an astute politician. He has won many elections in Manhyia South. It is not easy to win an election in Manhyia South. He has managed to hold on to the constituency. One of the things I like about him is that he is the one who delivered the mandate of President Akufo-Addo’s free SHS. It will go into our history. When Ghana is 100 years old and the track record of free SHS is mentioned, the names of two people will be mentioned, and they are President Akufo-Addo and Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh. He is the implementor. It was his ministry that set up the free SHS Secretariat.”
