Solomon Owusu, campaign spokesperson for Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, the founder of Movement for Change, reveals that the presidential candidate aims to establish an enterprise economy in Ghana.
The enterprise economy in Ghana requires Ghana’s self-reliance and private sector support.
Mr. Owusu asserted that if we simply rely on the government for growth, Ghana will fall further behind.
In light of this, he intends to unite the country and mobilise resources to ensure that his administration collaborates with the private sector to drive economic progress.
This agenda will be executed through his ‘Great Transformational Plan’ (GTP).
He explained that the GTP is based on six clusters: economic, infrastructure, governance, social, environmental and technical, and behavioural and attitude transformation clusters.
The GTP, he said, is a blueprint for Ghana’s economic transformation, job creation, mindset transformation, zero tolerance for corruption, unity, and accountable governance.
Speaking in an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Mr. Owusu highlighted that the plan is to build a prosperous, united, and peaceful Ghana that provides equal opportunities for all.
He said that “unemployment remains one of the most challenging issues affecting the country, with several young people unemployed,” which he intends to solve. He intends to lower taxes, including import duties on spare parts and other supplies. As a result, he has committed to end the dollarization of import costs in the hopes of making the country the lowest duty payer in the subregion.
The spokesperson stated that interest on loans is another issue hurting business owners in the country, and Alan has vowed to implement efforts to reduce the cost of loans in the country. Another issue he promised to combat is corruption, which costs Ghana millions of Ghana cedis each year. When you accomplish all of these goals, you will have reduced the cost of doing business, stabilised the dollar, cut taxes, and boosted trade. Aside from that, he proposes a new agricultural revolution, which will require the government to assist farmers in modernising their operations and adding value to farm produce, as part of his agenda for a comprehensive export policy that will generate nearly $35 billion for the country between 2025 and 2030.
The new agricultural revolution will also promote the the policy ‘Operation own a farm’, where Ghanaians will be encouraged to at least invest in a 10-acre farm of tomatoes, cassava, maize, and other farm produce.”
He added, “He (Alan) will also launch an industrial reform agenda based on a ten-point plan. We will reduce our overreliance on cocoa and gold. His government will focus on palm kernels. He will boost the textile industry’s exports. He would also invest in the petrochemical industry, which will allow Ghana to create fertiliser from the end products of that sector”.
