The Ghana Nurse-Midwife Trainees’ Association (GNMTA) has asked that the government provide allowances to trainee nurses and midwives.
The Association claims that despite the government’s promise to pay the allowances, the payment schedule has not been properly followed.
According to the Association, some of its members have received partial payments, with first, second, and third-year trainees getting allowances for five, six, and five months, respectively.
It was discovered that the 2022 batch, which was supposed to collect their arrears on May 23, as well as the 2023 and other batches, had not received their payments.
The statement by the Association stated that the 2017-2020, 2018-2021, 2019-2022, and 2020-2023 batches have yet to receive any portion of their allowances.
It described the delay as unacceptable and called for immediate attention.
The GNMTA called on the Ministry of Health, the government, and all relevant authorities to act swiftly to resolve this matter.
It was hopeful that the issue will be addressed promptly and pledged to continue advocating tirelessly for the rights and welfare of its members.
