President Akufo-Addo has hailed Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as someone who will better administer the country if elected as president in the forthcoming December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections.
The president commended his vice, describing him as humble, dedicated, supportive, and submissive.
He said this before Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Manhyia, where the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) officially introduced Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as a running mate.
In his submission, the president said he has no regrets about having Dr. Bawumia as his vice president.
He expressed optimism that Dr. Bawumia has what it takes to manage the affairs of the country.
He said the economist will build on his foundation to make Ghana better.
“We (NPP) are excited to be here. The party was founded here. Nana Asantehene, you are aware that the constitution of Ghana allows for a president to have only two terms while in office. If you succeed at that, you are required to have someone who will take over from you. Some people did not have the opportunity to enjoy two terms. They only had an opportunity for a term. I am grateful to Ghanaians for giving me the opportunity to serve my two terms.
My term is coming to an end, and so the NPP went into an election and elected Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the presidential candidate. I have worked with him over the past eight years. He has been very instrumental. He has been supportive. He has solidly stood by me. I am not sure any president has had the kind of support Bawumia has given me.
He is humble and supportive. He is the one that the NPP selected as the candidate for the party. We are optimistic that he is the one who can help us break the eight-year jinx. He is competent and will be able to manage the country well if he is elected president. He will build much more on my foundation and legacies to make Ghana progress further.”
