Madam Nyonkopa Daniels, the Executive Director of Peace Watch Ghana, has fired back at Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh for asserting that President Akufo-Addo’s record was far superior to that of the late Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
She called the statements as politically foolish and lies from a man who should have known better, especially given his reputation for arrogance and disrespect.
She wants him to apologise to Ghanaians and the Nzemas for denigrating the late Dr. Kwame Nkrumah for his political interests.
Speaking at his outdoor ceremony, the former Energy Minister, who was appointed during Akufo-Addo’s first tenure as Education Minister, stated that not even Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s record can compare to that of Akufo-Addo.
“In telling our history as Ghanaians, if Akufo-Addo retires, I can beat my chest and bodily declare that no president in our history has performed better than Akufo-Addo. Since 1957 to date, you can mention Kwame Nkrumah and any other president; none of them have managed Ghana better than Akufo-Addo. I say this with pride and with the fact that Akufo-Addo has performed better and surpassed all other presidents in our history.
He has performed so well, so we don’t have to allow what occurred in 2008 to repeat itself. Chairman Wontumi said this, and I want to reiterate it. We cannot allow what happened in 2008 to repeat itself.
But reacting to the comments, Madam Daniels indicated that even the presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is aware that NAPO lied.
Appearing on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, she said, “I am dissatisfied with Dr. NAPO. Before you were selected, you were tagged as an arrogant and disrespectful person, and so you should have been guided by that. You have been selected, and in your first public speech as running mate, you dare attack the legacy of Kwame Nkrumah. In fact, the Nzemas are angry. All over the world, people are calling me and expressing their anger.
As the running mate to Dr. Bawumia, you should be guided by your comments. Dr. Bawumia is even aware that you lied. You have been appointed to speak to the youth, give them assurance, and dare come out and make these reckless comments about the late Dr. Nkrumah. I hate the politics of insults and prefer the politics of policies. The legacies of Kwame Nkrumah are unmatched. We can credit him with the Akosombo Dam and other valuable projects that are serving us today. We should stop the dirty politics in the country.
Ghanaians are struggling and facing economic hardship; improvement is on the rise, and people are unable to make ends meet. You have the opportunity to address these people, and you come and insult the legacies of Nkrumah and speak recklessly,” she told host Kwabena Agyapong.
As a running mate, you should apply wisdom to your submissions and rally the people, not divide them through your reckless comments. For him to make these comments and even say ‘your Kwame Nkrumah’ is most unfortunate, disrespectful, and arrogant. I think NAPO should come out and apologise to the Nzemas and Ghanaians.
