Peace Watch Ghana, a non-governmental organisation with a focus on peace and security, has commended President Akufo-Addo for appointing Commissioner of Police (COP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, as the Deputy Inspector General of Police in Charge of Operations.
Executive Director Madam Nyonkopa Daniels, commenting on the appointment, said the appointment was a step in the right direction.
She hailed COP Yohuno as an effective and efficient officer whose passion and service to the Ghana Police Service have been nothing short of outstanding.
In her view, the appointment was long overdue, and it should have been done long ago.
Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, she said “the appointment of COP Yohonu is long overdue because this man has been effective and efficient. He has remained dedicated and served the police service well.”.
She told host Kwabena Agyapong that the relationship between Dr. George Akuffo Dampare and COP Yohuno is a good one.
“COP Yohuno has a very good relationship with the IGP. He is a hardworking officer. Go back and check his record as the former Greater Accra Regional Commander. Several armed robbers were arrested under his watch as Greater Accra Regional Commander. It is not surprising that he has been appointed. The cordial relationship between them is good. COP Yohuno respects the IGP. He does not undermine anyone. He is not evil,” she stated.
She also refuted claims that this appointment is a strategy to have the current IGP removed.
“This appointment does not mean that COP Yohonu has been bought in to undermine the IGP and have him removed. It will never happen. So those who have expressed this fear should remain calm. The two will work together to ensure that the 2024 presidential and parliamenatry elections will be organised without any violent activities.”
