Nana Kwadwo Agyei Yeboah, often known as Nana Kay, a communications team member for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has labelled former President John Dramani Mahama as Ghana’s greediest man.
He based his opinion on the former president’s desire to return to the presidency after having previously been elected.
In a political discussion on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM, Nana Kay indicated that Mr. Mahama has had an opportunity to rise through all the political ranks in the country; hence, he should give others an opportunity.
He stated that Mr Mahama rose through the ranks from Assembly member to Member of Parliament, Deputy Minister, Minister, Vice President, and President.
To him, a man who has the status of a former president and still wants to return as president is nothing but greed.
“If you are talking about people who are greedy in this country, John Dramani Mahama is one of them,” he said.
When the host, Kwabena Agyapong, told him that was unfair and a harsh description of the former President, so he should withdraw, he said, “You (Mahama) were a Member of Parliament. You (Mahama) become a Deputy Minister and, subsequently, a Minister. You (Mahama) later become a vice president, and we went to sleep; we wake up, and you have become president because the sitting president died. I must admit that Mr. Mahama is a man with enormous luck. The same way he rose from being a minister was the same way he became president.
So God has been so good to you. You have risen through all the ranks and assumed the highest seat. You have also reached the status of former president, which comes with all the financial benefits. You get fuel as a former president, but still, this man is not satisfied. So you will understand why I used that strong word when I described him as the greediest man in Ghana. But as you asked me to withdraw, I have withdrawn and apologized. So anyone who listened to me would understand my reasons for calling him greedy.”
The communicator appealed to Ghanaians to give Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia an equal opportunity as they gave Mr. Mahama in 2012, so we can also try him.
“In concluding, I would appeal to Ghanaians to remember how in 2012 they gave Mr. Mahama the opportunity to become president. He was not a president, but we gave him the opportunity to be president. It is now the turn of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to be given that same opportunity. He has never been president. So let us give him the same and equal opportunity given to Mahama, so we will evaluate them and see if Dr. Bawumia would be a better president than Mr. Mahama.
That is the appeal to Ghanaians. Two people are contesting, and one has already been given the opportunity to be president. The other has not been president before. The good thing about Dr. Bawumia is that his president never gave an order for him to be investigated. But the other person had his president order a corruption-related investigation into him.”
