Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has announced that his administration will roll out a national credit scoring system that will enable Ghanaians to own a mobile phone and pay it in installments.
The presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) said this would be done in collaboration with the mobile phone companies just as it is done in Europe.
He stated that the ‘Buy Now, Pay Later’, policy will allow Ghanaians to purchase any mobile devices of their choice and pay in installments.
The Vice President stated that the payment system will allow buyers to receive the mobile devices immediately without having to pay the full amount up front.
They will, after be allowed to pay in installments, split the total into several monthly payments.
“We will make access to mobile phones affordable. We will collaborate with the mobile phone companies, so they will give you the mobile phones, and you will pay the cost of the mobile phone in monthly installments. We will introduce this new scheme to allow Ghanaians to purchase mobile phones and pay in monthly installments of GHC1 and GHC2 until they finish paying.
We want to introduce this scheme so that every Ghanaian will benefit. We also want to make sure that every Ghanaian has access to a smart device.”
