Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Majority Leader in Parliament, has urged the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidates and party members to vigorously fight for victory in both the presidential and parliamentary elections.
The congressman and leader of government business in parliament stated that President Akufo-Addo’s presidency would have issues in Parliament due to the virtually equal number of seats.
He has thus requested that all candidates work hard to prevent a repeat of what transpired.
“Don’t give up, let us work together… To our parliamentarians, I say Kudos to all of you. I thank you for your support through your steadfastness and resilience although we have a very tight parliament.
“We have a majority of one…But we have a few months ahead of us. I want to encourage you to please make yourself available to support the course of government. Let’s finish hard. There is a price awaiting us.”
“To all parliamentary candidates let me plead with you enough of the reconciliation. Move on, fight hard, campaign day and night, go to every household. We don’t have time to settle disputes.
“Fight for this party the way you fight to save a sister, fight for this party the way you save a mother, fight for this party we need our numbers in parliament,” he stated.
Afenyo-Markin expressed confidence in Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the NPP flagbearer’s running mate, despite the National Democratic Congress’s attempts to label him as arrogant.
He also mentioned that the NDC had attempted to label President Akufo-Addo as arrogant during his previous campaign.
“We know you tagged Akufo-Addo also as arrogance but it didn’t work He is ready to transform Ghana with arrogance,” he said during the launch of the NPP manifesto on Sunday, August 18.
