A 43-year-old Ghanaian resident in Greater Manchester, Alberta Obinim, was stabbed to death on Monday, August 19, 2024.
Two other people were left with life-threatening injuries.
A man has since been arrested on suspicion of murder after the incident.
Alberta Obinim reportedly died at the scene on Barnard Road in Gorton at about 23:20 BST on Sunday.
A 17-year-old girl and a 64-year-old man were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Details emerging indicate that the suspect, 22, is related to the family he attacked.
The arrested man has been held in custody for questioning by detectives.
According to the police, the minor and the man sustained “serious stab wounds” in the attack, and their condition is “believed to be life-threatening at this time.”
Meanwhile, Barnard Road has been closed off while officers investigate behind a police cordon.
Three forensic tents have been put up: one in a garden, one on the road, and one on a property in the street.
Det Supt Toby Facey, of GMP, said: “We understand that the local community and further afield across Greater Manchester will be rightly shocked and concerned after waking up and hearing this tragic news this morning. Our thoughts remain with those affected and their loved ones at this difficult time. We are doing all we can to support them.
“Within minutes of the call being made, our officers were at the scene, and an arrest had been made. An investigation has been launched, and we are in the very early stages of our inquiries. We have had detectives on the ground who have been working throughout the night trying to get to the bottom of what has happened and why.”
Sir Richie, reporting on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, stated that the incident has stunned the Ghanaian people.
He stated that Alberta Obinim, now deceased, performed a song ministration at the Baptist Church in the area where the husband serves as senior pastor. Sir Richie claimed that the father and the suspect’s daughter are in severe condition, but medics are doing everything they can to save their lives.
He went on to say that another unexpected thing was that the pastor preached on forgiveness and that those who pull the sword will die by the sword.
As a result, several families and church members wonder if the man of God anticipated this tragedy.
