The flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has announced that he will not ask for a honeymoon if elected president.
He has therefore pledged to hit the ground running with a focus on job creation and economic reform if elected president on December 7, 2024.
He said this at a media engagement on Sunday, August 25, in response to what he will do in his first 100 days in office.
“I will definitely not be on a honeymoon. My government will go straight to work, and for me, my focus is on jobs.”
He promised to introduce a tax amnesty and a flat tax regime, both of which he aims to have ready by the time the first budget is read in March.
He added that “the E-levy will be abolished because we have to focus on the digitalisation of our economy, and so we need to take out the E-levy to make the facilitation of digitalisation smooth. So these are some of the things I believe we can do very quickly in the first 100 days when we are voted into office.”
He promised to review the tariff structure for businesses to create a more favourable environment for economic growth.
“Those things that will get businesses moving in order to create jobs will be looked at to show that we are serious about local businesses and serious about job creation,” he added.
He further outlined 14 things he will do after winning power in the immediate term.
Speaking at a media engagement on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, Dr. Bawumia outlined his key priorities, saying, “I’ve outlined my 14 key commitments to the Ghanaian people.”
“These include sustaining and expanding Ghana’s rebounding economy, creating new jobs, implementing wide-ranging tax reforms, and building Ghana into a world-class digital economy.”
These are to sustain and expand Ghana’s rebounding economy; create new jobs; implement a wide range of tax reforms; build Ghana into a world-class economy; reduce the cost of living; expand public infrastructure; provide better healthcare for all; implement affirmative action bills for women and girls; expand educational opportunities for all; provide good governance; care for the elderly; protect our environment; boost sports, creative arts, and tourism; and protect our borders while keeping our neighbourhoods safe.
