The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Ajumako Enyan Essiam constituency has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of secretly transferring three thousand and seventeen voters who are nonresidents in the constituency.
Addressing journalists in a press conference, the Ajumako Enyan Essiam Constituency Chairman of the NDC, Prof. Jonathan Annan, said the total figures of voters found in the voter register are different from what the EC gave to the NDC party.
According to him, per the analysis done, 3,868 voters in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam constituency have been transferred to another constituency, while 829 names were missing from the voter register.
He stated that this is an attempt by the Electoral Commission backed by the NPP to rig the upcoming elections in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam constituency.
He requested the EC to promptly remove all secretly registered names in the voter register and make all necessary corrections.
“This is worrying, very disappointing on the part of the EC and their collaborators. In fact, if this is an error, then we wish to say without equivocation that it is a deliberate error and intentional. Our brothers and sisters from the media, after detecting these suspicious figures and discrepancies that the EC boss in Ajumako Enyan Essiam district sent to the EC headquarters since she claimed she does not know how that bloated figure came about.
We in the NDC here do not take this response lightly. We are by this press conference calling on the EC boss, Mrs. Jean Mensa, to immediately delete all the 3, 017 voters.”
Some party members stated in a media interview that they would resist any attempt by the EC to manipulate the elections in favor of the NPP.
Party members claim Ghanaians have pledged to vote massively for them, but they must safeguard the ballots to prevent tampering with the people’s will.
“We are not going to sit down for the NPP and the EC to manipulate the elections. The will of the people must prevail. Ghanaians have told us that they will vote for us, but their question they have asked is how we are going to protect the ballots. And we have also told them that we are going to protect the ballots,” a member of the NDC said.
Another added “the women are prepared to protect the ballots. We will not allow the NPP and the EC to subvert the will of the people. We will not entertain anyone who will rig the elections. We are struggling and going through economic hardship.”
