The National Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has supported comments made by declaring its support for Samuel Atta Akyea, Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South.
The legislator has incurred the wrath of the opposition National Democratic Congress for claiming that Ghana does not need a drunkard or an alcoholic as a president.
Although he did not specifically mention the name of former President John Dramani Mahama, the party assumes he was referring to their candidate and asked him to apologise.
But in a press release dated August 30, 2024, the NPP Youth Wing, led by National Youth Organiser Salam Mustapha, said there was no need for the MP to apologise.
The NPP criticised the party for demanding any apology, describing it as a sign of hypocrisy, especially when they had in the past made disparaging remarks about the Vice President,
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The statement said the “drunkard” was first attributed to Mahama by Dr. Kwabena Duffour during the party’s presidential primaries.
It is the view of the youth wing that Atta Akyea only affirmed the assertions made by Dr. Duffour.
