The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued guidelines for the organisation of the Walewale constituency parliamentary primary rerun.
This has been necessitated following the annulment of the election by the High Court in Tamale.
The Tamale High Court has ordered a rerun of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primary in the Walewale constituency.
The decision by the court follows an injunction filed by the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Hajia Lariba Zuweratu.
The court granted the injunction on Monday, June 24, 2024.
The party in a statement issued and signed by General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua announced that the approved timelines are as follows: Opening of nomination: Tuesday, September 3, 2024.
Nomination Closure: Thursday, September 5, 2024
Election: Sunday, September 8, 2024
Aspiring candidates, the statement added, are required to obtain nomination forms by paying a non-refundable application fee of GHC 3,000.00 in a banker’s draft.
To qualify to contest, all aspiring candidates shall pay a non-refundable filing fee of thirty-five thousand Ghana cedis (GHC 35,000.00).
The party further announced that women, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) will receive a 50% rebate on the filing fees.
They are therefore required to pay a non-refundable fee of seventeen thousand and five hundred Ghana cedis (GHC 17,500.00).
“To ensure clarity, we define a youth as an individual between the ages of 18 and 40.”
Meanwhile, the party has clarified that those who participated in the general parliamentary primary election and paid the filing fees are not required to pay again.
“No one will be denied access to purchase nomination forms,” the statement said.
The party also appointed Elections Committee (EC) members, and they shall comprise the following persons:
1. Alhaji Haruna Mohammed, Chairman
2. Alhaji Nurudeen Fuseini, vice chairman
3. Hajia Safia Mohammed, Member
4. Evans Nimako, Secretary
5. Chairperson of the Constituency Council of Elders;
6. All Constituency Executives (Ex-Officio Members)
