Afrobeats superstar Rema has extended his gratitude to the Christ Embassy church in Benin, Edo State, with a substantial donation of $140,000 to several church departments.
The musician donated the money during church service on Sunday, September 1, 2024.
He was particularly grateful to the church for what he described as the guidance and support, especially during the difficult period following his father’s death.
“I’m not here to give myself any accolades or glory. I’m here to give God the glory. I feel like it is important to give back because the church has embraced me, prayed for me, and helped me stay consistent with my spirit,” Rema said.
The musician donated “$53,000 towards the church’s infrastructure, $26,500 to the Rhapsody of Realities, and another $33,000 to improve the infrastructure of the teen’s church, where I grew up.”
He further pledged “$27,500 to support widows in the church.”
“When I was eight years old and lost my dad, we felt lost and abandoned. Everything we had was taken from us, and we felt very alone.
“I remember Pastor Joy and Pastor Thomas, the pastors of this church, opening a shop for my mom, which allowed her to take care of us,” he added.
