Ghanaian businesswoman and wife of musician Keche Andrew, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has been re-elected as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for Amenfi Central.
The party re-elected her as the candidate through an acclamation after the only contender incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Peter Yaw Kwakye Ackah, withdrew from the race after vetting on Saturday.
A total of 1,430 delegates were present for the acclamation.
The candidate extended her gratitude to
members of the party for having faith in her to represent them.
She was optimistic the party will retain the seat in the parliamentary election.
The NDC annulled the Amenfi Central parliamentary primary that was conducted on May 13, 2023.
The party, in a statement signed and issued by its General Secretary, Fifi Kwetey, on Thursday, September 5, 2024, noted that the election has been the subject of litigation at the High Court in Sekondi.
“In the reliefs (c), (d), and (e) of the plaintiffs’ action, they seek from the court the annulment of the parliamentary primary election result and an order for a rerun of the election,” he added.
“Accordingly, the parliamentary primaries conducted on the 13th May 2023 in Amenfi Central have been annulled forthwith. The party has decided to open fresh nominations for the conduct of the primaries in Amenfi Central Constituency,” he stated.
