Communication team member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Eric Sosu, has posited that President Akufo-Addo should not be sitting as president if he were a politician with integrity and credibility.
He noted that the President in 2017 put his presidency on the line in fighting galamsey, but that pledge has failed with political appointees and politicians associated with the NPP neck deep in the activities of illegal mining.
Mr. Sosu said that as a president wielding all the constitutional powers, he had no excuse for failing Ghanaians.
Appearing on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Mr. Sosu stated that galamsey has threatened our lives as Ghanaians and has become an existential threat while the president looks on unconcerned.
The NDC communicator lamented that the majority of our water bodies have been polluted and forest reserves destroyed due to the greed of some people.
‘’We were in this country when President Akufo-Addo told us he would put his presidency on the line. He told us that even if he loses the elections because of his fight against Galamsey, he was prepared for that. However, the president has failed Ghanaians. There are claims that assigns and officials working at the Jubilee House are the ones engaged in galamsey. The government is not fighting galamsey. It has become worse than before. All our water bodies in the rural areas have been polluted. We were in this country when they told us that they had seized excavators, but we cannot trace these excavators. They shared it among themselves and used it for the galamsey activities,’’ he stated.
Eric Sosu maintained that the president wields all the powers, and if he was willing politically, he would deal with the canker.
