Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has filed his nomination forms to contest the 2024 presidential election.
The forms were filed on his behalf by National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketkiah at the Electoral Commission on Monday, September 9, 2024.
He was accompanied by some senior officials of the party, including the Director of Elections for the NDC, Dr. Omane Boamah.
They were received by EC Commissioner Mrs. Jean Mensa and other officials of the electoral body.
Welcoming them to the EC’s headquarters, Mrs. Mensa reiterated that the EC will be fair but apply the law while scrutinising the forms submitted by the presidential candidates.
The EC boss indicated that as part of efforts to ensure a transparent, credible, transparent, and accountable process, the EC has developed a detailed checklist that embodies the criteria to be satisfied by presidential candidates as prescribed by law.
The checklist will guide the awarding of marks by teams established by the Commission to scrutinise and review each of the nomination forms submitted.
The EC stated that the guiding principle for both teams is clear and is to operate in accordance with the law and not to exercise discretion in the matter.
On his part, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah commended the EC for making the forms available online for the parties and other aspiring candidates to access them.
He was optimistic that after the scrutiny by the EC, candidate John Dramani Mahama would be cleared to contest the upcoming presidential election.
