We’ve witnessed retrogressive and nuisance taxes instead of the industrialisation we were promised – APC

September 10, 2024
WORLANYO

Rev. Samuel Worlanyo Mensah, running mate of the All People’s Congress (APC), has pledged to the business community that, as part of its industrialisation agenda, the party will implement initiatives aimed at eliminating nuisance taxes.

The man of God who was selected as running mate by the APC last week indicated that there were several nuisance taxes affecting the growth of businesses in the country.

He said we have heard the rhetoric of moving this country from taxation to production, but unfortunately, the government over the years was unable to move the country to the next level.

He opined that Ghana has witnessed the introduction of retrogressive taxes, which are burdening Ghanaians and, most importantly, business owners.

He announced that an APC presidency under the leadership of Hassan Ayariga will scrap all forms of nuisance taxes to free up space for businesses to grow.

He explained that it was important to support the private sector so they will expand and create more jobs for the unemployed youth.

He said the clearing of goods from our ports should not be that expensive and thrown businesses out of business.

The APC he indicated is determined to stabilise the cedi against the dollar and deal with food inflation since it is a national security threat.

‘’Food inflation is being seen as a national security concern. Food in Ghana has become extremely expensive due to the depreciation of the cedi and lack of proper transportation measures from the various farm gates in this country. This has forced businesses to increase the cost of goods and services, making Ghana one of the most expensive countries for food in the West African sub-region.’’

He underscored the need for investment in the agricultural sector to make Ghana food sufficient and achieve food security, adding that the otherwise fantastic policies of planting for food and jobs and one village, one dam, have not been properly implemented, stressing that we must revolutionise agriculture for national development.

Agric and agribusinesses, he added, would be prioritised under the presidency of Hassan Ayariga.
