The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has confirmed Dr. Tia Abdul-Kabiru Mahama as its parliamentary candidate for the Walewale constituency.
His confirmation was by a unanimous decision by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).
The confirmation comes barely 24 hours after the incumbent MP Madam Hon. Lariba Zuweira Abudu announced that she was withdrawing from the rerun of the party’s primary.
The party rerun the polls following a court order, but the electoral process was disrupted after some individuals snatched ballots during the sorting process.
The Electoral Commission had annulled the results after it discovered some of the ballot papers were damaged.
For the sake of party unity, the MP issued a statement announcing that she was no longer interested in contesting the rerun.
The NPP, in its latest update and a statement issued by General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua, announced that the party has confirmed Dr. Tia Abdul-Kabiru Mahama, becoming the sole aspirant for the contest.
The Party regards in high esteem the decision of Hon. Zuweira to bow out of the race and
appeals to all stakeholders of the Walewale constituency to offer their unflinching support to
the candidacy of Dr. Tia AbdulKabiru Mahama. May God bless our homeland, Ghana, and make the New Patriotic Party great and strong.’’
