Ben Nunoo Mensah, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, was conferred the title of Nɔyaa Mantsɛ, or Development Chief, by the Ga State, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to sports and national development.
At the enstoolment ceremony, held at the Ga Mantsɛ Stool House in Accra, he was given the stool name “Nii Kojo Ashiefie Papanyira I”.
The event drew dignitaries from various sectors, and Nunoo Mensah will support King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II’s development initiatives.
He is expected to assist the Ga Mantse completing key development projects initiated by the Ga Mantsɛ, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, to uplift the Ga State.
King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II praised Nii Kojo Ashiefie Papanyira I for his steadfast commitment to promoting sports and youth development across Ghana.
He admonished him to continue with his good works, and ignore any distractions that might impede his efforts.
He further advised him to prioritise the welfare of the entire Ga State, stressing the importance of selflessness in leadership.
In his acceptance speech, Nii Kojo Ashiefie Papanyira I expressed his gratitude to the Ga Mantsɛ and the Gyaasetsɛ, Dr. Nii Tetteh Quaye, for the honour.
“I am humbled by this great recognition,” he said, dedicating the title to the sports community and pledging to continue his work in advancing sports excellence in the country.
“I am very pleased that King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II has initiated the King Tackie Teiko Tsuru Education Fund. With this, we can provide as many scholarships as possible to the youth of Ghana.
“There are many challenges in the Ga State, and I believe I can help the King restore the State to its former glory.”
As the President of the GOC, Nunoo Mensah has played a pivotal role in promoting Olympic sports and supporting Ghanaian athletes, leading to notable improvements in the nation’s international sporting achievements.
He has also previously led sporting federations, including the Ghana Cricket Association and the Ghana Weightlifting Association.
The Ga State also has a Development Queenmother, Madam Elizabeth Naa Anyema Nunoo, a businesswoman and owner of Odo Rice Food and Services.
She was enstooled in August 2018 under the stool name Naa Anyema Ablade Okropong.
