The Democracy Hub, organisers of Reoccupy Julorbi House demonstrators, has taken a swipe at the Ghana Police Service for receiving their demonstration as “unGhanaian.”
The group says the description by the police is disrespectful and undermines the essence of civic engagement in the country.
In a press statement issued on Sunday, September 22, 2024, Democracy Hub noted that the demonstration being organised is to voice their concerns against some issues affecting the country.
The leadership in the statement asked the police to engage in constructive dialogue with demonstrators instead of resorting to threats and negative labelling.
“The police’s attempt to label our actions as ‘unGhanaian, uncivil, and unlawful’ is not only disrespectful but also disregards our fundamental right to hold our leaders accountable.”
“The essence of being Ghanaian is rooted in our spirit of resilience, unity, and the pursuit of justice. Our demonstration is a reflection of these values, as we seek to raise awareness of the issues affecting ordinary citizens, including corruption, environmental degradation, and unemployment,” an excerpt of their statement said.
