A Deputy Ranking Member on the Education Committee of Parliament, Dr. Clement Apaak, has slammed the ruining mate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.
He slammed him over his comments that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) will change the name of the University of Professional Studies if Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is elected as the next President.
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has assured that the government will soon rename the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) after its founder, Nana Opoku Ampomah.
He gave this assurance during a courtesy call on the Chief of Amoafo, Nana Opoku Ampomah, as part of his tour of the Bekwai Constituency in the Ashanti Region.
He stated that “the necessary constitutional and legal processes have been put in motion to effect the name change to ‘Opoku-Ampomah University of Professional Studies.’
But reacting to this, the Builsa South Member of Parliament, Dr. Apaak, slammed him, wondering why he would make such a promise.
He noted that the ruling government has not invested in the construction of any university for the past eight years they have been in office, and yet they want to rename institutions built by others.
He said in a tweet on X, formerly Twitter, that Ghanaian voters will not even give them the mandate to continue the shameless renaming of schools.
He wrote, “Your shameless stock in trade is to rename public institutions. How many have you secured funding for and built from scratch in your eight years in office? News flash, Ghanaians will not give you a mandate to continue on your shameless remaining spree.”
