The year-on-year inflation for September 2024 has increased from the 20.4 percent recorded in August to 21.5 percent for the month of September.
According to the Ghana Statistical Service, the increase can be attributed to a rise in food inflation.
The report from the GSS indicated that food inflation surged to 22.1 percent from 19.1 percent in August 2024.
Non-food inflation declined to 20.9 percent from 21.5 percent in August 2024.
Inflation on imported items increased to 17.0 percent from 16.1 percent in August, whereas locally produced items recorded inflation of 23.4 percent from 22.2 percent in August 2024.
Restaurants and accommodation services recorded 27.9 percent, whereas alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and narcotics recorded 27.6 percent, GSS added.
Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels GSS indicated recorded at 26.4 percent. Education services had 23.7 percent. Health was recorded at 22.3 percent, and food and non-alcoholic beverages were also recorded at 22.1 percent.
The items have more inflation than the overall rate of 21.5% for September 2024.
Prof. Samuel Kobina Anim while announcing this latest figure said “This five-month successive decrease in the rate of inflation has been reversed in the month of September with food recording a higher rate’’.
