Dr. Sabaa Nancy-Rosa, a healthcare practitioner specialising as a general practitioner at the Trust Hospital, has disclosed that any individual who has a breast is prone to breast cancer.

The medical professional explained that just like women, men also have tissues that can develop breast cancer.

In an interview with Sokoohemaa Kukua on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM’s midmorning show, she noted that while breast cancer is typically associated with women, everyone is born with breast tissue, making anyone susceptible to the condition.

She told the host that male breast cancer is rare; however, it can also affect men and can occur at any age, although it is mostly known to affect older men.

According to her, treatment for breast cancer typically involves surgery to remove the tissue, but other treatments also include chemotherapy and radiation therapy, which may be recommended by medical professionals.

Dr Sabaa Nancy-Rosa encouraged regular checkups to ensure early detection, adding that ”the reason it cannot be prevented is because we don’t know exactly what causes it. But there are risk factors. There is no exact cause, and what we do is early detection so that we can help in reducing the impact and start early treatment”.

She said physically inactivity is a risk factor for developing breast cancer and advised the public to exercise regularly.

Regarding nutrition, she emphasized that incorporating whole grains and cereals into one’s diet can effectively mitigate risk factors.

She stressed that ‘’men can also get breast cancer. Anyone with breast is prone to breast cancer. From research, breast cancer is more common in older people (men and women). The older you get, from 60 and above, the risk is higher, but recently, we have women in their 20s, 30s, and even teenagers with breast cancer. But those ones are not common. Even though there is an identifiable age, your risk factor is higher between ages 50 and 60, it doesn’t prevent you from getting it at a younger age’’.
