Tornadoes struck St Lucie County on the state’s east coast, killing five people, according to DeSantis.
According to the BBC, Florida citizens are being advised not to visit areas affected by Hurricane Milton, which delivered tornadoes, floods, and storm surges to the state.
Over three million homes and businesses are currently without power, according to available data, and Governor Ron DeSantis predicts further flooding in the coming days.
The water supply in St Petersburg, on the west coast, was interrupted, a crane fell into a newspaper building and the roof of a Major League Baseball stadium was ripped off.
Milton is heading for the Atlantic, but many regions of the state are flooded, with some people being evacuated by boat.
Some roads and pavements in Orange City, located north of Orlando, have fallen.
The Orange City Fire Department has posted many photographs on their Facebook page of massive portions of tarmac crumbling away.
According to a department statement, “multiple roadways” have either “been completely washed away or are flooded”.
It encouraged motorists to avoid the affected areas.
