October 17, 2024

The Ghana Police Service has arrested suspect Nana Amo Abraham for causing harm to his 20-year-old daughter at Twifo Praso in the Central Region.

The Police, in a statement, indicated that the suspect physically assaulted his daughter following a disagreement and inflicted bodily harm on her.

The statement said, “He (the suspect) is currently in custody assisting the investigation and will be put before court.

Meanwhile, the police have made arrangements for the victim to be brought to the police hospital in Accra for further medical care.”

Background

A 20-year-old woman was beaten by her father, Mr. Amo, at Twifo Praso after arriving home late from work.

The young lady, who has been identified as Esther Amo Blankson, suffered some bruises at her back due to the lashes the father gave her.

The father is alleging that the daughter left at 6:00 am for work and returned at 2:00 am, a situation he described as disturbing.

Mr. Amo stated that when he confronted the daughter, she snubbed him and dismissed the issue.

Angered by this action, the father reportedly lashed her mercilessly.

The man allegedly lashed his daughter with a wire, which he has admitted to and stated that he is prepared to face legal action.

Speaking about the issue to the media, Mr. Amo said he felt disrespected by the action of the daughter, who had also destroyed his gate.

The father explained, “She left home at 6:00 a.m. and returned at 2:00 a.m., and I was wondering why she arrived so late. I was selling in my bar at the time, but she ignored me and went home to break down my door after I told her to go back to wherever she came from and sleep there. She had her money with me, so I told her that before I gave it to her, she needed to repair my door. She treated me disrespectfully.

I will not send her to the hospital. She lacks respect and shows no regard for anyone, including her madam, who trains her. I am her father, and I felt disrespected by her actions, so I needed to discipline her. I don’t care if I get arrested. Will the police shoot me because I disciplined my daughter? I do not care. “I am prepared for any consequences,” he stated.

Speaking exclusively to Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the victim disputed what the father said.

She claimed she had gone to the father to collect her money, and under no circumstances did she snubbed him.

“I want him to give me back my money. She took my money from my bag, and so I went to ask for it, and unfortunately he lashed me. I have my GHC 337 with him, and I went for it. When I closed from work, it was almost 2:00 am, and so it was not something I did intentionally.”
