Gospel singer Perpetual Didier has stated that pastors who engage musicians to perform at church occasions must compensate them for their services.
She stated that their skill required resources and investments to improve, and that playing for free at events, particularly those hosted by churches, should no longer be acceptable.
Perpetual Didier remarked that some excellent musicians are suffering difficulties owing to a lack of financial assistance, and that compensating them for their concerts would go a long way towards assisting them in raising more finances to maintain their craft.
The musician stated this in an interview with Rainbowradioonline.com when she attended Rainbow Radio’s free breast screening exercise on Friday, October 25, 2024.
She lamented that one of the major reasons why several gospel musicians are unable to breakthrough as they should is ‘’due to a lack of investment. I am talented. I am creative. The challenge I have is a lack of investment. If I get the money, I will surprise Ghanaians. I have a lot to offer, and when I get the needed support, I will have a solid ministry’’.
When asked about the need for musicians to perform for free for pastors and churches, she disagreed, claiming that the good book states that we will eat the fruits of our labour, so gospel musicians should be compensated.
”There is no honour in hunger. You can’t serve God by going hungry. What will your testimony be as a God’s servant if you are hungry? What will your ministry be when evangelising to win souls for Christ or convincing people to accept Christ? They’ll regard you as wretched. They will say that you, the one inviting them to Christ, are wretched. How will we carry out the ministry? I completely disagree with those who say we shouldn’t be paid.
It’s one of the reasons we’re not progressing as musicians. It was past time for the pastors to acknowledge our sacrifices and the importance of their support. The pastors collect offerings, tithes, and other seed-sowing funds. These collections are not sent to God in heaven. There is no pipeline carrying these funds to God. God does not have a bank account to replenish the funds, so pastors should reward or compensate gospel artists for their performances. God’s bank account is to invest in people so that they can appear good and serve God honestly.
We attend to church to bless people’s lives; how can I do that if I am hungry? How can I go to the studio and record my songs if I don’t have any money? We need money to make progress. So, as church-sponsored pastors, you buy land to build a house, send your children to good schools, drive nice cars, and travel internationally, but you refuse to pay gospel musicians. “It is a terrible and huge sin against God,” she stated.
