Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, has maintained his commitment to eliminate the E-Levy if won in the 2024 general election.
The Vice President has also vowed to eliminate import levies on mobile phones, making them more accessible and affordable for Ghanaians.
Dr. Bawumia made the pledge while speaking with a group of young people on Sunday, November 3, 2024.
He stated that smartphones would be affordable under his government as part of efforts to promote digital inclusion and empowerment, while also bridging the technology gap and fostering economic development.
“I will also be abolishing import duties on mobile phones until manufacturing capacity is established in Ghana. So that we can put smartphones and other phones in the hands of the Ghanaian people at an affordable rate. On this digital journey, we will also abolish the E-levy, as we have already stated before.
He also made a commitment to introduce tax amnesty for businesses, alleviating financial strain and stimulating economic growth.
In his words, this provision would support businesses facing difficulties with unpaid taxes, enabling them to channel resources into growth and job creation.
